This new hand-wound, Rafael Nadal-inspired watch from haute watchmaker Richard Mille combines the spirit of the legendary RM 027 (Rafa’s first watch from Mille) with a carbon case manufactured using the NTPT ® technology recently developed by Richard Mille.
The NTPT carbon case (announced by RM October 2013) consists of several layers of parallel filaments of carbon of a thickness of 30 microns, then impregnated with a resin stacked on a specific machine which modifies the fiber orientation of 45 ° between two layers. This technology provides not only housing exceptional rigidity in all directions but also gives each case a unique identity through the undulating shapes and random visual identity that emerge slowly during milling and finishing of carbon on the surface of the steel damask.
The Calibre RMUL3 is a skeleton manual winding movement with hours, minutes, & seconds. RMUL3 provides exceptional resistance to impacts through the use of titanium grade 5 black PVD throughout the movement; Mille subjects it to extensive testing under extreme conditions, including higher impacts than 5000 G. The movement weights a mere 4 grams.
Other Richard Mille design technologies such as the variable inertia balance and titanium spline screws in titanium are also present in this watch
